    •   Mission - St. Mary of the Hills School

      Our Mission

St. Mary of the Hills School is a culturally diverse Preschool through Grade 8 Catholic School inspired by our love of Christ.

We educate both Catholic and non-Catholic students from communities across Massachusetts. By valuing innovation in education, our programs promote spiritual growth, personal academic excellence, and social development in a safe and nurturing environment.

      Students learning in classroom

We believe that being part of this community strengthens all of us in meeting the challenges of our lives – as scholars, citizens, family members, and as active bearers of Christ's compassion to the wider world.

      Nurturing Each Child's Unique Potential

From Early Childhood through Eighth Grade, we encourage each child to recognize his or her full, unique potential. As their mastery of core academic skills grows, our students become capable, disciplined, passionate seekers of knowledge and truth.

      Student engaged in learning

St. Mary of the Hills offers age-appropriate enrichment, volunteerism, and leadership opportunities in addition to classroom instruction. These programs reinforce our school's values and mission and foster our students' self-esteem, self-confidence, faith, compassion, and an understanding of the world around them.

      The St. Mary's Advantage

      Personalized Learning

Every child learns differently. We adapt to individual personalities and learning styles, ensuring each student receives the personalized guidance they deserve. Through close collaboration with parents, we calibrate your child's learning experience to help them thrive—whether they're naturally outgoing or quietly thoughtful, academically gifted or need extra support.

      Innovation in Education

We continuously evaluate and implement the latest educational practices, from classroom technology to our comprehensive Spanish program (Pre-K through 8th grade). Our passionate teachers engage in ongoing professional development, fostering lifelong learning that nurtures imagination, curiosity, and confidence.

      Beyond the Classroom

Our enrichment opportunities span academics, athletics, leadership, arts, social justice, and community service—all designed to help students grow and discover themselves outside traditional classroom settings.

      Middle School Excellence

Our innovative middle school program cultivates students' growing self-confidence and emerging independence. As they develop a wider view of the world, we provide the guidance and support they need. Our 8th-grade graduates attend prestigious Catholic, exam, and independent schools throughout Massachusetts, often earning merit scholarships based on their academic success at St. Mary's.

      Diverse Community, Shared Values

Students from different backgrounds, ethnicities, and communities create our vibrant, multicultural environment. Here, they discover that intelligence, friendship, and character transcend differences. Rooted in faith, we develop young people of strong moral character who become peer leaders and changemakers in their communities.

      Our Heritage & Community

      Our Founding Story

In 1953, Monsignor Francis Flaherty, the Pastor of St. Mary of the Hills Church, saw the need for a parish elementary school where the faith and values of children would be nurtured for years to come. The school opened its doors in 1958 under the guidance of the Missionary Franciscan Sisters and has since been supported by our Parish, families, and the St. Mary of the Hills community to build strong Catholic education in our youth.

Historical St. Mary of the Hills

Since 1953, St. Mary of the Hills has been a cornerstone of educational excellence in Milton, Massachusetts. Our rich history reflects decades of dedicated service to families throughout the greater Boston area, building lifelong friendships and nurturing young minds in our vibrant community.

      Building Lifelong Connections

      Students building friendships

At St. Mary of the Hills, we believe that the friendships formed and the bonds created extend far beyond the classroom. Our close-knit community fosters relationships that last a lifetime, creating a network of support that follows our students wherever their paths may lead.

These connections become the foundation for personal growth, mutual support, and shared values that our students carry with them long after graduation. The collaborative spirit we nurture here creates bonds between students, families, and faculty that strengthen our entire school community.
